Background of the Study
Chronic pain is a common symptom in cancer patients, often affecting their quality of life. Effective pain management is crucial for enhancing comfort and improving the overall well-being of cancer patients. Nurses are key players in managing this pain, but they may encounter barriers that hinder optimal care. This study aims to evaluate these barriers in Bauchi State.
Statement of the Problem
Despite advancements in pain management, many cancer patients continue to experience unmanaged or poorly managed chronic pain. Nurses in Bauchi State hospitals may face various challenges, such as inadequate training, resource limitations, and cultural factors, that impact their ability to manage cancer-related chronic pain effectively.
Objectives of the Study
To identify the barriers that nurses face in managing chronic pain in cancer patients.
To assess the impact of these barriers on the quality of pain management provided to cancer patients.
To recommend strategies for overcoming the identified barriers to improve chronic pain management in cancer patients.
Research Questions
What are the barriers that nurses face in managing chronic pain in cancer patients in Bauchi State?
How do these barriers affect the quality of pain management for cancer patients?
What strategies can be implemented to overcome the barriers to effective chronic pain management?
Research Hypotheses
Barriers such as lack of training, inadequate resources, and cultural beliefs significantly hinder effective chronic pain management in cancer patients.
Overcoming these barriers will improve the quality of pain relief and overall care for cancer patients.
